    Hi Jessica,

If you don't mind my asking, what are your family names from Lyndora?  That is where my ancestors settled and my theory is if you go back far enough, most everyone in Lyndora is related, one way or another.  :-)  My primary family names are Ference, Hornick, Bilowich/Belowich/Bilowick, Hunka, Paluha/Palan, Uram, and a number of others through subsequent marriages.

I also reached out the the Church and had a lovely conversation with Father Douglas.  He even did some research and called me back to let me know he was unable to find records.  The Butler Genealogy  department at the Butler Library helped me out tremendously.  They were able to find the article on the accident at ARMCO steel that my great grandfather died in at the age of 24.  I know that my grandfather lived in the rear of the Lyndora Hotel until his father was killed and then his mom remarried another Rusyn quickly.  He apparently was abusive.  I tried to call the Lyndora hotel, the lady at the front desk was nice, and said they have quite a few records as well, but they don't like to open the book (superstitious).

    Hello Mary Anne,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have not tried to contact St. Michael's Parish as of yet. The information you sent is extremely helpful and I plan on writing a letter to submit after the holidays. I was not able to locate the name of the priest via the internet and when I had tried calling I never got an answer. Your information is of great value. Thank you again.

    Hi Diane,

I think you've obtained the info you were looking for, but I wanted to provide you with contact info for St. Michael's in Lyndora should you want to contact the church to look for additional records.  The church is very much functioning, and I would guess you haven't heard because of the busy Advent/Christmas season.

The priest there is Father Douglas Lorance, 610 Hansen Avenue, Lyndora, PA  16045.  Phone 724-283-0363.  As an interesting aside, St. Michael's has the largest collection of relics of the saints of any Eastern Rite church.  We visited there over a year ago and it was very interesting.

Good luck to you in your search.  My family settled in Lyndora from Habura, Berehy Gorne, Solinka, and Gleboka, but I do not recognize your family names from my research.

Thank you Barb,  The Pennsylvania Museum and Historical Commission (PHMC), has Pennsylvania death indexes to view for free from 1906 thru 1969. This website is a great free resource for PA ancestors. They also have birth indices as well as numerous other resources. If you are a resident of PA, you also have free access to PA Ancestry.com. Here is the link:

https://www.phmc.pa.gov/archives/pages/default.aspx. Look under Archives and Online resources. You can also visit to research, however with COVID the museum has been closed.  Since the libraries are closed, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has given at home access to Ancestry if you have a library card. This has been SO wonderful. If you want to search, you may. Sometimes a second set of eyes can be very helpful. I have searched the indexes multiple times and can't locate. It may also be due to a misspelling of the surname . I was looking for a birth for about 30 years, and I finally found it under a spelling that was nothing close to the variations I had found previous. Again I appreciate your offer to search, here is the information:

Annie Wujcik born May 28, 1910 Parents were John and Mary Tymus. They lived in Lyndora, PA at the time. According to my findings, she died 1910-1911. I assume even if she died shortly after birth there should be a record of some sort. Not sure. I am going to begin writing to churches to try and locate records. Thank you again!

You mention looking at the indexes for PA deaths.  I am not sure where this is located but I do know that death certificates are available at Ancestry.com in the Vital Statistics section.  I have had good luck looking here but as with all records - you may not find what you want.

Ancestry is available, from home, through some libraries as we navigate the Covid issues.  I would be happy to look for this record but I will need more info  - name and approximate year of death would be helpful.  All possible spellings of the name, as well.

I have traced my paternal grandparents to Lyndora on the 1910 census. I also found a birth certificate on one of their children born after the census was taken. On a following birth certificate I obtained on their third child, it stated that number of births 3, number living:2.  I realized this baby had to have died between giving birth to the third child. I know Pennsylvania began keeping death records in 1906. I have searched in death indexes numerous times to find this infant's death, but have had no luck. I spoke to a genealogist at the Carnegie Library and was told the death may have only been registered in the parish where they attended.  I am trying to figure out which parish they may have attended in 1910. My initial thought is St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church on Hansen Ave. I have tried calling and have gotten no answer, does anyone know if this Parish is still serving parishioners? I also could not locate the name of the Reverend Father so I could write a letter. I would appreciate any thoughts on this and who I may contact to inquire about birth, death and marriage records.

    Thank you!

    Diane
