I would start with St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church to see if you can get firm dates to help you move forward.  Since it seems your immigrant ancestor came in the late 1890's, there may be no records if the church was constructed later but you have nothing to lose.

Sharon,  Thank you very much!  My aunts and uncles are excited that someone is finally looking into this research.  Until 3 weeks ago- they didn't even know their grandmothers name!  With the little bit of clues I have found- his death announcement listed he lived in the rear of the Lyndora hotel in Butler.  My dad and aunt confirmed that was indeed correct as their dad always pointed it out as they drove by.   Jessica

So excited to find this group and join as a member.  I finally sat down to start a family tree 3 weeks ago.  My grandmother died last year and I needed to start before I forget anything and my aunts and uncles are all up in years.  In doing my research on my dad's family (Kalimon) I ran into many many issues.  Changing names and very little if any documentation.  

What I know - Michael Kalimon (great grandfather) came to the US from the Ukraine- at least that is what we were told.  He lived in Lyndora, Butler PA and at the age of 22/23 died at the ARMCO steel factory from a workplace incident. My grandfather Micheal was only 4/5 and his sister was 1/2.  He tried for years to find a grave but apparently was buried in a potters grave.  His mother Martha Karlitsky remarried and died in 1928.  In finding a census they actually listed Ruthenian as their native tongue.  They also attended St. Micheals Greek Catholic Church ( Lyndora/Butler PA).  In talking with my aunt about Ruthenian- she was like YES that makes sense, he always referred to this Greek Catholic church and she really didn't know why.   I searched Lemko.org and not only is Kalimon -(Kalaman) on the list so if my other grandparents name Bobak (also emigrated to Butler PA, between 1880-1890.)

I think I have been able to find Martha Karlitsky's emigration paperwork - but I am unable to find anything on my great grandfather at all.  I assume he came between 1880-1900 but nothing- also not even a death certificate.
