my husband's paternal grandmother's family was from Porac, came to US, SW Pennsylvania area. Names are Kinik (sometimes spelled Kinnick), and Vrabel or Vrabely.

Hello Christina, my name is Laurie Fabula- Slovik. Slovik 22@comcast.net. I found your post when I was googling the Fabula name. I don’t know much of my fathers family history. My parents were divorced when I was young. But I do know that my great, great grandfather John Edward Fabula was married to Anna Vrabel. I have a copy of their 50th wedding photo. They lived in Bayonne, New Jersey. Their boys were Edward, Steven, John (my grandfather) Michael, daughters were Veronica, Ann, Florence and Marie. I wish I could be of more help.

My paternal grandfather Michael RUS(Z)NAK married Anna S(Z)TARUCH 15 Sep 1903 at Leisenring, Fayette, Pennsylvania, USA.

Marriage Certificate issued by Saint Stephens Byzantine Catholic Church. Official: Rev. Augustine Medvigy. For unknown reason Michael changed name to MILLER on certificate. On his deathbed, requested obit to read RUSNAK.

After marriage, he joined Saint John's Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville. Michael never told progeny about parents and siblings who emigrated to nearby Braddock, Allegheny County. I only discovered them through DNA and research. I suspect family split with parents who remained Byzantine.

PS: Ancestry shows I have 53 DNA cousins with BAILEY surname on their tree, and two with BELEJ surname on their family tree.

I've taken Ancestry autosomal (non-gender) DNA test. I subscribe to Ancestry, My Heritage, Family Tree, TIER1 on GEDmatch.com and CGSI.

Also belong to Fayette County Historical Society (PA). Lifetime member of Dunbar Historical Society (, Fayette County PA, near Uniontown). Born in Connellsville. Graduated from Monessen High School, Westmoreland Co.

One DNA match on their Family Tree has Katalin STANISLAV (1848-?) married to Michaael MARGETKO (1848-?). They had a daughter Mary MARGETKO (b1884 in Cz; d. 1953 in New Salem, Fayette County PA).

I have distant 5th-8th DNA cousins (6 to 20 centimorgans) and 4th DNA cousins with surnames FABIAN, JUREK (from Porac, married to a HUMANIC), LESKO (from Velyki Luchky and Westmoreland Co. PA), KACHMAR (I collaborate with 13 cM DNA match on Ancestry), KRAK/KRALJ married to JUHASZ, BELEJ (born in Jasyna Poland, died in Johnstown, Cambria Co. PA).

My Ancestry DNA ethnicity profile is 91% E. Europe, 9% Germanic Europe.
Many above DNA matches have high E. Europe % and/or Germanic % profiles.

Three grandparents were born near Kosice and Stare in Slovakia. 4th near Uzhhorod, Ukraine. These areas in Austria Hungary sometimes called Galicia.

Paternal grandfather was born 1892 near Kosice, about 25 miles Southeast of Porac and Rudenany, Slovakia.

This cumbersome message suggests I may be related to several people who posted in this thread. Feel free to contact me for follow up. Be prepared for surprises. DNA matches and Family Trees don't always correlate perfectly.

Ancestry recently introduced ThruLines. It posits common ancestors from family trees for members that share DNA. My Heritage recently introduced Theory of Family Relativity that does a similar thing. VERY HELPFUL.

I'm willing to collaborate with 4th cousins and closer (> 20 centimorgans DNA). Also those who have common surname or geographical connections of interest.

They were one of the first marriages in the church 1892. It was one of the first churches in the area with most families from Porac. Also, St Mary’s in New Salem, Brownsville, Fairbanks, etc. All the small mining patch towns were full of Rusyns. Another great resource is the 1869 Hungarian census from the Church of Latter Day Saints. Found my Great- Grandmother Marija Sefchek. We also found land records going back into the 1700s for Andrej Belej. You see many the same names in Porac documents that you see in St Stephens cemetery. It seemed half the town just picked up and came to America and settled together.
