My Rusyn grandfather was born in his homeland with the forename/first name of Vaszily. His USA paperwork such as marriage certificate, naturalization papers etc , and how he was known as was Charles.
Similarly, my Rusyn great Uncle was born in same homeland as Laszlo but later was referred to (and his paperwork stated) as Charles.
How and who selected the name changes? And why were the changes typically made? (Easier for English speaking bosses, coworkers, administrative authorities?)
