    John, Sharon. Based on where our relatives settled, we all look to Ellis Island. You are right about Baltimore which was known as Locust Point.  Other major immigrant processing was at Boston, New York, New Orleans and Philadelphia. Minor ports of entry include Portland ME, Gloucester MA, New Haven CT, Providence RI, Wilmington DE, Norfolk VA, Savanah GA, Charleston SC, Key West FL, Mobile AL and Galveston TX. There were also Canadian ports of entry. The major east coast ports were Halifax N.S., Montreal and Quebec City. Victoria and Vancouver B.C. were the major west coast ports of entry. A chronological summary of U.S. immigrant processing at the Port of New York is as follows:  1624-31 Jul 1855 no receiving station, 1 Aug 1855-18 Apr 1890 Castle Garden, 19 Apr 1890-31 Dec 1891 Barge Office, 1 Jan 1892-14 Jun 1897 Ellis Island, 15 Jun 1897-16 Dec 1900 Barge Office, 17 Dec 1900-1924 Ellis Island. I got this info from a book "They came in Ships" which our genealogy group leader brought to a meeting a couple years ago.  Hope this info can help some followers.

    Hi Sharon,

    Thanks, Ellis Island does not reveal any info for me or any of the others who have tried to find my grandparents on their site. Just have to keep looking. It has become a challenge.

       I found most of my family came into Ellis Island. Good search site 

    https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger. Some older records there as well for Castle Garden. Though was surprised some of my Dunmore relatives came into Baltimore port.  Surnames spelled very different.  I found them on Ancestry site as well as on My Heritage sites which I subscribe to.

    You mention passenger lists of people who arrived in Scranton and settled in Dunmore. What are some ports of entry for these ships? I cannot find my grandparents' names on any passenger lists. Anything you can remember would be a great help. Thanks.

    I have a Carpatho-Rusyn  Settlement map of the 20th century with data from 1881 and 1806, I find it very valuable as I was able to find the villages of my family. I looked up Ulic and as I suspected  the village was just inside the border of Slovakia. My family came from  the other side of this border afew villages in Ukraine.

    If anyone would like a look up let me know

    Hi,

      My grandparents and other relatives lived on Drinker St.  In genealogy research they talk about cluster immigration from a village. I believe many from Transcarpthia and surrounding areas went to Dunmore. A very strange finding is on passenger lists over and over so many Rusyns going to Scranton listed as a S. Washington St address as final destination. I went to the address and its in the flatlands and nothing there now. But St. John Byzantine church stands atop the hill and that's where my father was baptized. Would very much like to be able to view the records of the church.

    Hi Sharon,

    My grandparents also settled in Sport Hill, living at a Drinker Street address. I grew up on Field Street.

    I have yet to find their names on a passenger list. The 1920 census and baptism record of my grandmother are the most informative records I have found.

    Hi John,

    My grandparents emigrated to the "Sport Hill" section of Dunmore. As I have been doing my research I see many Rusyn names in sections of Dunmore. The villages my family came from were Lubyna, Verkovyna Bystry ,  Volosanka, and Kostryna in todays Ukraine.  Interestingly, looking at so many passenger lists I see many of Rusyn sounding surnames emigrating from these villages to Dunmore. And I am matching with many  DNA though I don't know the connection.   I think the passenger lists give alot of information that can easily be overlooked.
